The novel "Divergent" is the first novel written by the young female American writer "Veronica Roth". It was published by Catherine Tegen Books on April 25, 2011. It is a science fiction dystopian novel and takes place within the "Divergent Universe" ; in the divergent universe the society has been divided in many kinds of individuals; based on their nature and fears or we may call them “Factions" (according to the novel). These factions which are Abnegation (for the selfless), Amity (for the peaceful), Candor (for the honest), Dauntless (for the brave) and Erudite (for the intelligent) are based on pure discrimination. The people who do not initiate in these factions are labeled as "Faction less”; the faction less are forced to be homeless and to live in poverty. However there is another kind besides these which would end up being labeled as faction less if revealed, the "divergent" which is also the title of the novel. A divergent is a person whose aptitude is based on many factions. All the society members at the age of 16 must initiate in faction selection. The story is starred on a young girl named "Beatrice" ; born in an Abnegation family. When she is tested for faction selection her tester reveals to her that she is a divergent and warns her to conceal this.
Not being an abnegation person, on choosing day Beatrice chooses Dauntless and leaves Abnegation and is taken for testing for dauntless selection. Later on their instructor whose name is "four" tells them that not all of them will be selected for dauntless, only ten of them would be labeled as dauntless leaving others as faction less. The initiation is segregated to take place in three stages; all of them will be tested for dauntless title in the dystopian society. Beatrice changes her name and calls herself Trish. In the first stage the applicants would be trained in handling guns and hand to hand combat, Trish comes in sixth place beating rival "molly". Then someone gets stabbed in the eye with a butter knife for attaining the first place in the first stage. Stage two involves simulation in which they are to bear conditions symbolical to their fears. Trish becomes advantageous and attains the first place in stage two because of her many abilities as a divergent, trouble came for her and four of the applicants threatened Trish of raping her, they were about to do something more to her but "four" interfered and saved her, one of them committed suicide when he didn't attain the forgiveness he seek. The final stage is a landscape provided with conditions prior to their fears. After that four reveals his real name to Trish, they grow close to each, Trish begins to adore "four" and it becomes mutual but there many more left to our excitement. Enjoy reading the novel guys.
